Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue
“Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue”, this saying dates way back to the Victorian era but still remains very much an integral part of wedding tradition today. Blue symbolises trust, loyalty and faithfulness, so it is understandable why it plays its part in such an occasion. There are many ways brides choose to wear blue on their wedding day; some choose to go for something subtle like a blue garter or blue flowers in their headdress whereas others have blue as their main wedding theme, choosing to opt for a blue dress with a bouquet of hyacinths and delphiniums for a really pretty fairytale look.
As well as symbolising trust and loyalty, blue is renowned for being a colour that promotes calmness, tranquillity and a clear mind. This comes from its origins in nature. It is represented in the Zodiac by the star sign Aquarius, which is symbolised by a Water-Carrier, and the Zodiac element – Air. I have always been a real water baby, I personally love nothing more than being sat on a secluded white sandy bay, looking out at the ocean or lying on the sand looking up at the sky, it gives me a real sense of freedom and peace. So if I’m around blue it reminds me of that. I think the same goes for a lot of other people. That’s why blue is so often the colour of choice for baby’s nurseries and treatment rooms at beauty salons.
But blue isn’t just a colour for the fairer sex. Little boys are dressed in baby blue and dark blue is a colour associated with masculinity and intellect. This is why a lot of companies choose to use it in their corporate logos, because it portrays an image of professionalism and integrity.
