A look back on the Royal Wedding

Filed under: Wedding Photo Albums — Diane @ 6:17 pm

As we move into 2012 as look forward to The Queen’s Jubilee and another additional bank holiday, we must have a little moment to remember last year’s big event and the fabulous Royal Wedding.

Billions of people around the world all tuned in to watch Catehring Middleton marry Prince William.  We may not know all of the finer details such as what the exact wedding table plans looked like, or the brand of Miss Middleton’s underwear, but we do know everything else about that wonderful day this past Summer…

Who could forget that cake?  It was made up of seventeen (yes, seventeen!) individual fruit cakes and comprised eight tiers of culinary cake heaven.  Thousands of plants and trees were brought into Westminster Abbey to give the old building a feel of being in an English country garden.  The bouquet itself was very simple in its design – a round arrangement of Sweet William (ahh) with myrtle – dating back to a tradition which began with Queen Victoria.

You can have a taste of the Royal Wedding for your own by using sugar flowers on your cake and an English Garden-inspired theme for your flowers.  Why not go the whole hog and hire a horse and carriage?  You may not have the wedding table plans to match the Royals but you can certainly have a little taste of Wills and Kate for your big day.

An Eco-Wedding!

Filed under: Save the Date Magnets — Dave @ 6:08 pm

With so many of us trying to do our bit both for the environment and our budgets, don’t underestimate how Eco-friendly you make be able to make your wedding.

From table plans and save the date magnets, through to wedding favours and venue decorations, try to buy recycled where you can.  This doesn’t have to mean a second-hand wedding though! – stationery printed on recycled paper or made from sustainable forests will do the trick!

With many of your guests having to travel to your wedding – either a short journey by car for local guests, or maybe even a plane ride away for those flying in for the occasion – you might want to consider carbon-offsetting for your wedding.  What this means is that you can calculate the carbon footprint of your guests having to travel and then making a donation to a charity of your choosing.  If you are on a tight budget, then why not tell guests your plans beforehand, when you send out your wedding invitations or save the date magnets or card, and ask them to make donations themselves based on their travel plans.

So, as well as making your own dreams come true on your special day, take the opportunity to make a difference to a charity close to your heart.
