Following on from our wedding planner article, we thought we’d do a few articles on why you might or might not want to hire a wedding planner. First up, reasons why they might be the best idea ever…
You are a busy woman and haven’t got time to do the washing, let alone remember to send out any save the date magnets!
You want to get married in an unusual venue, abroad, or have no clue where to start.
You are rubbish with money and want someone to manage your budget for you (and your groom-to-be is not an option).
You don’t have people who are able to help you plan your wedding. maybe your family don’t live close by or your best friends wouldn’t have a clue what a save the date magnet was even if they had a hundred of them stuck to their fridge.
Your timescales are very short (think ‘Don’t tell the Bride’!) and you need the service of a professional to pull it off in time.
You can’t be bothered to argue with caterers when they serve Bucks Fizz instead of Pimms and the florist delivers one bouquet short.
Next up, reasons why it might be better to go it alone.
I often wonder where the trend for hiring a wedding planner has come from. It seems the thing to do over the pond in the States but is becoming more and more popular over here too. Is it a case of being too busy to do things yourself or do brides-to-be actually need to services of a trained person in order to pull off a decent wedding?
A wedding planner will handle everything from helping to find the venue through to sending out wedding invitations on your behalf – at a price, of course! The best wedding planners will not try to run your day for you but will be there to offer tips and advice along the way and chase up deliveries and promises when they aren’t delivered. The idea is that they remove the bulk of stress from your big day so that you are left to enjoy it with your loved ones.
I agree with this side of the whole ‘wedding planner’ appointment, but cant help feel that part of the fun of planning your actual wedding is in choosing your own wedding invitations – or even making them – and enjoying the feeling of accomplishment when you manage to turn a disaster into an accomplishment, all by yourself. Maybe I’m just old fashioned – or would make a really awesome wedding planner!
