The role of the father of the bride

Filed under: Wedding Help & Advice — Diane @ 9:00 am

The wedding day can be a really emotional time for the father of the bride. But often, his role in the big day can be a little neglected. All focus is on the bride and groom, the bridesmaids and the ushers. But for the father of the bride, there are important duties to perform as well as those emotions to overcome.

The wedding day is the day that the father of the bride will be handing his daughter over to the care of another man. There can be a sense of loss for the father of the bride. But they have to keep it together to perform their important duties.

Of course, tradition says that the father of the bride should pay for the wedding, but these days that’s not always the case. Often the couple themselves will pitch in and the parents of the groom may also want to help out.

Aside from this, one of the biggest duties for the father of the bride to carry out is giving the bride away. All eyes will be on the father of the bride at this point so it’s important to make the moment special. Ensure that the father of the bride knows when he needs to perform his duties by providing him with a wedding order of service. Once this duty is over, the father of the bride is free to enjoy the rest of the ceremony.
