What to do about wedding favours

Filed under: Wedding Help & Advice — Jenny @ 9:00 am

There always seems to be a little bit of confusion over wedding favours. It is never clear whether they are mandatory and also what kind of thing they should be. How much money should be spent on them? And should every single wedding guest get a wedding favour?

Well firstly, it is important to remember that wedding favours are by no means mandatory. Guests don’t normally expect them so if you would rather spend your budget on other aspects of your wedding such as wedding photo albums or wedding guest books, then that is perfectly acceptable.

But if you do decide to invest in some wedding favours, don’t feel pressured to buy one for every single guest. A lot of this depends upon which wedding favours you choose. If you are investing quite a lot of money in the wedding favours, then it’s ok to only give one per couple. However, if you are choosing small wedding favours, then it might be nice to present one to each guest.

As with the rest of your wedding plans, what you choose to do with your wedding favours is completely your choice. They are never expected but they are a nice little touch and the perfect way to thank your guests for their attendance; that is until you send out the wedding thank you cards.

Cutting the wedding cake

Filed under: Wedding Help & Advice — Jenny @ 9:00 am

There are certain things that immediately spring to mind when we think about weddings. The dress is usually the first consideration for the bride and the groom may be thinking more about the food at the wedding reception.

But one image which always comes out of every wedding is the one of the happy couple cutting the wedding cake.

Wedding cake is traditionally made of fruitcake. But these days, more and more couples are choosing to have chocolate cake, plain sponge, or a layer of each.

The big moment where the cake is cut is hugely symbolic and all of your guests will want to witness this special occasion. Normally, the cake cutting will happen during the wedding reception, but you need to get the timing right to ensure that all of your guests have chance to see it.

The cake cutting usually takes place about two hours into the reception as the wedding guest books are doing the rounds and people are in a celebratory mood.

The cutting of the cake should be announced and immediately following the cutting, it is a good idea to get your DJ or band to play an upbeat song that will get everyone up and dancing to celebrate the occasion.

Throwing a baby shower

Filed under: Baby Help & Advice — Diane @ 9:00 am

Throwing baby showers has been a tradition in America for years but now, the tradition has come to Britain.
It is the job of a friend or family member to organise a baby shower and it’s a great way to get everyone together, have great fun and celebrate the new life.

The baby shower should happen in the last few weeks leading up to the birth. The baby shower should really be kept to girls only, but if he wants to be a part of it, then the father of the baby should be invited too. You could even decide upon a theme for your baby shower to make it a little more fun. For example, you could all come dressed as your favourite nursery rhyme characters.

The party should ideally not be held at the mum-to-be’s house because she should not be expected to play host or clear up afterwards.

The idea of a baby shower is to shower the parents with gifts for them and the baby. A good idea is to get the mum-to-be a pampering kit so that she can treat herself when she is tired and exhausted from all those night time feeds.

But one gift which you can’t miss off the list is baby photo albums. Baby photo albums can help the parents record all those special moments of the baby’s early life. And they are great for keeping and looking back on in years to come.
