Menu Suggestions for your Baby Celebrations – Afternoon Tea

Filed under: Baby Help & Advice — admin @ 9:00 am

Are you stuck for food ideas for your baby’s Christening, Blessing, Naming Ceremony or Baptism celebrations? When Catering for you baby’s special event it is important to get your menu just right… and more importantly at a budget you can afford!

An idea that is becoming more common is serving ‘Afternoon Tea’ for your guests. This tradition is said to have started in the 1840’s by Duchess Anna Maria. She (like many others of us) felt that there was a too big of a gap between her lunch and dinner, finding that consuming cakes and biscuits at 5 o’clock satisfied her needs.

Why not get creative in the kitchen yourself and produce some butterfly fairy cakes? These can often be made at little expense whilst also looking really personal. Also, who doesn’t enjoy having some fun in the kitchen, make it a family event!
If cooking is not your forte then pop down to your local bakers and purchase some nice homemade cakes. When displayed appropriatly these can look very appetising for your guests.

Make it a really fashionable event.. combine china sets from Granny’s cupboard with modern plates and cutlery for a high fashion, vintage look.

Cake suggestions include;
Lemon Drizzle Cake,
Chocolate Victoria Cake,
Mini Tartlets,
Afternoon Tea Biscuits.

The Card Gallery offers a range of invitations for your Christening, Blessing, Naming Ceremony or Baptism.

A little about traditional Christening outfits

Filed under: Baby Help & Advice — admin @ 9:22 pm

A traditional Christening robe or gown was a dress that was worn by both boys and girls for their Christening ceremony. The dress included short sleeves and a long flowing skirt. The size, material and decoration of the skirt was often used to display the family’s wealth and status in the community. Intricate details were often added to the garment, perfect stitching, embroidarys and the best of fabrics including fine cottons, linen and silks. As white is the symbol of purity, almost every Christening gown was this colour, usually teamed up with a bonnet and shawl to portray innocence.

Christening robes are preserved and often handed down the generations as each new member of the family is Christened. This often adds a more personal and meaningful element to the item.  More recent years have seen a rise in trend for boys to opt for a silk or satin sailor romper, complete with sailor hat.

A quirky custom of the Irish is that on her wedding day, the bride carries a ‘Magic Hanky’ that is converted into a bonnet for her firstborn’s Christening. When it is time for her firstborn child to marry, the bonnet is then converted back to a hanky for the bride to carry.

The Card Gallery offers a range of Christening invitations varying from traditional to contemporary to suit your ceremony.
