Creating a budget for your wedding

Filed under: Wedding Help & Advice — Diane @ 9:00 am

The costs of weddings vary hugely. Some couples spend their life savings on their big day whereas others like to stick to a very tight budget. But no matter how much money you have available to spend, you have to learn to stick to a budget and not get tempted into spending more money than you have.

Most couples will have to spend at least £20,000 on their wedding and prices are going up all of the time so it’s important to create a realistic and obtainable budget before you start planning.

Never budget for more than you can afford because costs can soon spiral out of control. You must start off being realistic and use brochures as a guide to work out costs.

You need to know how many guests you are likely to have so that you know how much of everything you will need to order. If you guess, you will end up with an inaccurate budget, so try to work out exactly how many people will be at the wedding so that you can budget for your wedding stationery and your catering.

Be as specific and detailed as possible when you are calculating a budget and you will find that you can stick to your budget a lot easier when it comes to planning the big day.

Starting your wedding planning early

Filed under: Wedding Help & Advice — Jenny @ 9:00 am

At school, you were always the one who left their homework right up until the last minute and you could never organise a get together with your friends as you got older. But now you’re expected to organise an entire wedding.

Unless you can afford to take six weeks off from work to spend solidly preparing for your wedding, it’s unlikely that you will find a huge amount of time to plan your wedding at leisure. You’ve got to make the most of every single second available to you and be extremely efficient.

So to give yourself the best chance of success, you need to make sure that you start the wedding planning early. As soon as you know which date you are going to get married, start booking your venue, photographer, caterer and other services as they can get booked up very early.

You could also invest in a wall planner which will allow you to keep a note of the appointments that you have coming up as well as any deadlines for bill payments. Having a wall planner will also really help you to see when you are free to start getting jobs completed such as sending out wedding invites.

It’s not easy planning a wedding, but with a bit of organisation, you can really make all the difference.

Delegating your wedding preparation jobs

Filed under: Wedding Help & Advice — Diane @ 9:00 am

Even if you’re a complete control freak, when it comes to arranging a wedding, you will have to accept a bit of help. If you try to do it all yourself, you will find yourself struggling to get through all the jobs and you will certainly find yourself getting tired and stressed out.

So it’s important to learn the art of delegation when you are planning a wedding. Friends and relatives will be really keen to get involved in the wedding preparations and to avoid getting stressed out it’s a good idea to let them. Of course, you will still get the final say when it comes to making the decisions, but you can get your family, bridesmaids and best men to do the fiddly jobs such as picking up samples and sending off your wedding invites. These might seems like the dull jobs, but they will be happy to help and you can also decide to reward them by allowing them to get involved in the more interesting parts of the preparation.

Wedding planning is so tiring and there’s so much to do, so you must learn to delegate and also, make sure that you have a few days off, to recover from the stresses of the preparation.
