Being the best man

Filed under: Wedding Help & Advice — Diane @ 9:00 am

There’s more to being the best man than organising a stripper for the stag night. In fact, the best man plays a vital role in the lead up to the wedding as well as the big day itself.

There is a huge amount of responsibility attached to the role of being the best man. Right from the start, you need to familiarise yourself with the bridal party; get to know everyone and what part they are playing in the big day and then make yourself aware of exactly how the day is going to run.

It might be that the groom is only looking for you to support him through the preparations, but he may also give you certain responsibilities of your own such as ordering the wedding photo albums or helping to arrange the wedding order of service.

No matter what the groom asks you to do, you must always be willing to help and you must try your best to be as useful as possible.

Of course, one of your biggest responsibilities is writing your best man’s speech. There is an awful lot of hype built up around these speeches, but try not to worry too much. If you know the groom well enough, then you should be able to come up with something quite natural and entertaining for the guests.

The main point of being a best man is getting involved in the organisation as much as possible but making the experience enjoyable for the bride and groom too.
