November 3rd - We have a date...sort of!

Dear Readers,

Well, it has been a fortnight full of decision-making, organisation and planning – this wedding business is exhausting!

We have – after much deliberation and a cheeky suggestion of a Las Vegas wedding – decided to get married on our own turf and abandon the idea of a foreign affair.  It took a lot of talking and a lot of weighing up the pros and cons, but eventually the idea of having all of our friends and family with us when we tied the knot won us over.  I think it was also partly down to the fact that we have a two year old son, Joe, and have had so much help over the past couple of years with him that it seemed the right way to say ‘thank you’.  I imagined that moment when Joe got to walk down the aisle with me, or when his little 2-year old groovy self decides to throw some shapes on the dance floor at the reception, and realised that none of this would happen if we did it abroad.  So, country of wedding is done!  I have also started Googling venues and am really liking some of the civil venues in beautiful country manors so I think we are preferring that rather than a church.  That said, I haven’t seen any churches yet so I think a quick visit to some local ones might make up my mind one way or the other.

Maybe I’m being a bit slow but it was only when looking at venues did I realise that this is going to affect the date (doh!) as the venue we want might not have availability when we want it so it seems that the date and the venue need to be done together.  So, because we really wanted to get a rough date sorted out, we are remaining flexible but are aiming for the last weekend in September 2012.  Friends have informed me that this is quite a tight timeframe to organise everything, but I think we can do it – and setting the date will make me do it!  Nothing like a deadline…

I am scheduling in fortnightly board meetings with Darren (over dinner once Joe is in bed!)  I think Darren’s eyes have glazed over once or twice but he hasn’t fallen asleep yet or asked for the ring back so I will soldier on!  Next weekend we are talking possible venues (after I have printed out details of the shortlisted ones) and starting to think about our guest list.  I have a huge family but Darren’s is quite small.  Everything seems interconnected: the amount of guests will affect the venue…the venue will affect the date…so on and so forth. Surely it all comes together in the end???

That’s it for now, see you in two weeks for the latest update!

Laura
