Dear Readers,
Still no dress as my sister has been away with work and I really don’t want to do this part without her. I have girlfriends who have offered their services and I really appreciate it, but my sister knows me best, is brutally honest, and has the same style as me so I figure we can get through those dress rails in double-quick time! She is back next week so we will hopefully get back to the task then.
Meanwhile, we managed to get a cake sorted! I asked Darren to come along with me to the cake-makers and got ‘the exasperated look’ once more. This is different to ‘the bored look’ which means he really can’t be bothered and I should try and get someone else; ‘the fake-enthusiastic look’ where he will come along but is of no help; and ‘the appeasing look’ where he hopes that if he says yes enough it’ll speed things up and we’ll leave quicker. The exasperated look is different – it means I may well have been going on about all things ‘wedding’ for a little bit longer than he can handle. As many of you have told me, it’s not my fault – and not even his fault- it’s down to genetics and him being a man. So, I have cottoned onto the fact that there has to be a treat in it for him to make him want to take part (remind anyone of small children?). This was easy as Darren has a sweet tooth and I made him realise that if you’re going to buy a cake, it isn’t just sitting around leafing through pictures of icing – it’s sitting around scoffing cake. He was up for it and the cake lady was truly amazed at the amount of cake he managed to put away in the space of an hour. Result: we picked a cake, Darren had the best lunch of his life, and everyone’s a winner!
See you in a few weeks!
Laura (with a dress?)
